Kinnser became part of WellSky years ago, so your login might still say Kinnser or it might now read WellSky — either way, it's the same platform a lot of hospices and home health agencies have run on for a long time. If your team knows the system and likes it, there's no reason to switch. But you don't have to use it for billing just because you use it for charting. Hospice Engine bills your hospice directly from inside the application, whatever the badge on the door says.
We've specialized in hospice billing since 2012, and hospice is the core of what we do. Kinnser built its name in home health, and many agencies on the platform run both home health and hospice lines — we bill both, so you can keep everything with one billing partner instead of splitting it across vendors.
Here's how working with us looks, month to month, and what it costs.
Keep Your System. We Bill From Inside It.
There's no EMR migration and nothing for your clinical team to relearn. You add our billers as users in your Kinnser/WellSky environment, and we work directly in it. Your nurses keep documenting exactly as they do now; we run billing in the background from the same system.
Since Kinnser and Consolo are both WellSky products, an operator running a mix across hospice and home health can still consolidate billing with us regardless of which WellSky platform each line uses.
The Monthly Rhythm
Daily NOE Submission
We check your new admissions every day and file the Notice of Election (NOE) that Medicare requires within 5 calendar days of admission. A late NOE means losing the days between admission and filing, so we monitor daily rather than catching up weekly — and we'll alert you by email or phone if a new patient is approaching the deadline.
Eligibility Checks Before You Admit
Send us a new referral's demographics and we'll tell you whether they're eligible, who their payer will be, how long they've already spent on hospice with prior providers, and whether any authorizations or special cases apply. Where a patient sits in their hospice lifecycle drives their benefit periods, so getting that picture before admission keeps you out of trouble at billing time.
Cash-Flow Forecasting
A differentiator you won't get from most billing companies: we tell you when your Medicare payments are coming. For an agency timing payroll and vendor payments, knowing the date the money hits your account is the difference between planning and guessing.
Billing on the 1st
We bill on the 1st of the month unless you tell us otherwise. Just before, we email you for any special details — discharges not yet entered, or higher-paying levels of care like continuous care or GIP that need to be captured. Once it's clear, billing goes out, and you get a stats email so you know your revenue immediately.
Claim Validation and Cap Tracking
Before claims go out, we validate each one against the visit records in your system — flagging, for instance, when a patient is due for an RN visit under the every-14-day rule before it becomes a claim issue. And every month we send a snapshot of where you stand against your annual Medicare cap, so a cap overpayment never blindsides you when the report comes due.
Simple Pricing
Billing is a flat $3 per patient, per day, with a minimum:
- One patient hits the minimum tier of $250/month — a small fraction of the roughly $6,000–$7,000/month a single hospice patient typically generates in Medicare revenue.
- Above that, it's just $3 per patient per day. Most hospices run around 15 to 50 patients, where you simply pay the per-day rate — comfortably below what competitors charge.
- Large census? The pricing caps out, so it won't keep climbing.
Brand-new and not billing Medicare yet? During accreditation we charge a flat $50/month for eligibility checks and guidance, and the per-patient rate only starts once real billing begins.
Setup Takes About 7 Days
We email you a one-page agency setup worksheet — approved contacts, business name and address, tax ID — you give us a login, and we're ready to go. Setup typically takes about 7 days.
You can read more on our Kinnser billing services page or the broader WellSky billing page, and see the full onboarding timeline for what to expect in the first few weeks.
