Consolo — now part of the WellSky family — is a solid hospice EMR, and if your clinical team is comfortable in it, there's no reason to leave. What a lot of Consolo users don't realize is that your EMR and your billing don't have to come from the same place. You can keep charting in Consolo and hand the entire revenue cycle to a dedicated hospice billing team that works directly inside your Consolo application.

Hospice Engine has specialized in hospice billing since 2012. Hospice is what we do — we're not a general medical billing shop that also dabbles in hospice. We bill straight from within Consolo, the same way your in-house biller would, so nothing about your clinicians' day-to-day changes.

Here's how it works, what we handle every month, and what it costs.

You Keep Consolo. We Bill From Inside It.

No EMR migration, no data export, no new software for your nurses to learn. You add our billing team as users in Consolo, and we work in your environment directly. Your staff documents in Consolo exactly as they do today; we handle billing in the background from the same system.

Because Consolo and Kinnser are both WellSky products, agencies sometimes run a mix of systems across hospice and home health lines. We bill hospice and home health both, so a multi-line operator can keep everything under one billing partner regardless of which WellSky platform a given agency runs.

What We Handle Every Month

Daily NOE Submission

We log into Consolo every day to check new admissions and submit the Notice of Election (NOE) that Medicare requires within 5 calendar days of admission. Miss that window and you lose the days between admission and filing. Daily monitoring — not a weekly catch-up — is how we keep NOEs from filing late, and we'll alert you if a new patient is getting close to the deadline.

On-Demand Eligibility Checks

Get a new referral and want to confirm they're billable before you admit? Send us the patient's demographics and we'll come back quickly with their eligibility, who their payer will be, how long they've already been on hospice with prior providers, and any authorizations or special cases to watch. That prior-hospice history shapes their benefit periods, so knowing it up front prevents billing surprises later.

Cash-Flow Forecasting

One thing that sets us apart from other billing services: we tell you when your Medicare payments are coming. Knowing when the dollars will actually land in your account lets you plan payroll and pay your bills with confidence instead of guessing.

Billing on the 1st, With a Check-In First

We bill on the 1st of the month unless you tell us otherwise. A few days before, we email you for any special details — discharges that haven't been entered into Consolo yet, or special levels of care like continuous care or GIP that pay at a higher rate and need to be captured. If everything's clear, billing goes out on the 1st, and you get an email with your billing stats so you know your revenue right away.

Claim Validation Against Your Visit Records

Before claims go out, we pull the visit records in Consolo and validate every claim against them. If something's off, you hear it from us first — for example, we'll flag when a patient is due for an RN visit to stay compliant with the every-14-day requirement, before a missed visit turns into a claim problem.

Medicare Cap Tracking

Every month we send you a snapshot of where you stand against your annual Medicare cap. The cap is a once-a-year reckoning, and agencies that aren't watching it can get blindsided with a repayment when the report comes due. We keep it in front of you all year so you can manage admissions and avoid the surprise.

Simple Pricing

Our billing pricing is a flat $3 per patient, per day, with a minimum:

  • One patient hits our minimum tier of $250/month. (A single hospice patient is typically about $6,000–$7,000/month in Medicare revenue, so the fee is a small slice of it.)
  • Above that, it's simply $3 per patient per day. Most hospices run somewhere around 15 to 50 patients, and at that range you're just paying the per-day rate — which comes in well below what our competitors charge.
  • Large census? The pricing caps out, so it won't climb forever.

Just getting started and not billing Medicare yet? If you're a brand-new hospice still in accreditation, we charge a flat $50/month during that phase — covering eligibility checks and guidance — and the per-patient rate only kicks in once real billing begins.

Setup Takes About 7 Days

Onboarding is light on your end. We email you a one-page agency setup worksheet for your basics — approved agency contacts, business name and address, tax ID — you give us a Consolo login, and we can hit the ground running. Setup typically takes about 7 days.

You can read more on our Consolo billing services page or the broader WellSky billing page, and see the full onboarding timeline for what the first few weeks look like.
